World Martial
Arts
Since the dawn of time man has defended himself from predators, whether man or beast, for
self-preservation. When it comes to the evolution of Martial Arts some scholars have explained the origin of
Martial Arts as three time periods. The Age of Instinctive Movement which coincides with the origin of man. The Age
of Conscious Movement approximately 7,000 years ago. The Systematic Movement approximately 3,000 year ago until the
present. During Systematic Movement armies and individuals alike have been taught fighting techniques using
systematic methods to teach Martial development. Throughout the world indigenous people have always faced the need
for survival, hunting, and self-defense, and have developed their own fighting techniques for those purposes.
However, today most prominent Martial Arts systems taught originate from Asia. Martial Arts teach not only
self-defense, but develop good character, patience, and
discipline.
